Define a Problem
This project was to read and follow dimensions to reconstruct a model train. Assembling was then done after parts were created. Finally, the Train was put on a straight track and then animated as if it were actually moving.
Generate Concepts
I started modeling by doing the hardest part, the train body, first. Then I worked on the pieces based on complexity. Then the assembly was easy because all the parts had pegs on them so the insert command was easy to use. Reading dimensions was pretty easy. But, the axle peg was hard to understand because i'd never seen dimensions like them before, like for the threads.
Develop a Solution
Construct and Test a Prototype
Evaluate the Solution
The only advice given to me was to change the color. The people I asked said the color should go together and match like change the green cow catcher to yellow maybe.
Present the Solution
I faced a few challenges in this project. The first I encountered was finding the height of the arc on the train body. I found it by making the arc from its center point then connecting the end points of the arc with the bottom points of the train base. After this problem there wasn’t too many more challenges, except just trying to find the easiest way to assemble parts, which was the insert constraint. A sectional view is used to see the interior of an object, usually to see holes and different items inside an object. An auxiliary view is used to dimension objects and faces of sloped or inclined parts of an object. For example an auxiliary view would be used to show the incline of a slide. A broken view is used to show necessary parts of an object and cut out unnecessary parts like the linkage arm it showed the two ends and cut out the middle length that wasn’t needed to see the detail of the object. Symbols are used instead of words to identify holes and threads because it simplifies the dimension and it is easier to understand once you learn the symbols. Also, with threads the simplified dimension is easier to understand than the words that would be used to describe and that is the same with the holes, I think that the words would just make the dimension even harder to understand. Tolerances are used to show the amount of variance an objects dimensions can have and still work effectively and properly.
