The Random Number Generator
Define the Problem
Generate Concepts
The Random Number Generator project was to take the Project Lead the Way kit and assemble the RNG.
The 3 main goals of the project were:
1- Assemble the RNG
2- Have the RNG work successfully
3- Improve our soldering skills

Evaluate the Solution
This project was a great way to improve our understanding of how to distinguish certain components and how to assemble them on a circuit board. For example, we had to find the difference between 4 types of resistors before soldering, this was because if incorrectly soldered on the board would not function as suppose to and we would have to desolder then use an additional resistor to fix our mistake. Another important piece of information we had to keep in mind was to make sure to place the proper leads of polarized components in the proper holes before soldering them. I didn’t encounter many problems while I was soldering. The only problems I can think of were that at first I used a little to much solder, but as I progressed I used less which I think was good and showed the improvement in my soldering. One of the most important things while assembling the RNG was to make sure to solder the chip holders and not the actual chips because if we would of did that we would of had to get a new chip because the other would of been fried. One other problem I encountered was that my RNG didn’t work at first but after just heating up the solders on the chip holders the RNG worked fine. So, I believe this project was a great success because I achieved all the main goals, especially improving my soldering skills.
